Lafarge To Invest $40 Million In Ecuador Unit Over Four Yrs
French cement maker Lafarge SA plans to invest $40 million in its Ecuadorean unit over the next four years, the chief financial officer of the Andean unit said Friday.
The investment will raise the plant's production capacity 36%, Sergio Teran told Dow Jones Newswires. The plant's current output amounts to 640,000 tons a year.
Teran said the market for cement in Ecuador has "big development potential, which is based on growing demand." According to Selva Alegre data, cement consumption in Ecuador in 2004 rose 7% to 3.4 million tons.
